Songs of the Past is the upcoming paid third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red is co-developing it with Fool’s Theory and publishing it under CD Projekt. The studio has confirmed a 2027 window and no calendar day. Some store searches have shown Q4 2027; treat that quarter as unconfirmed until CD Projekt Red names a date. The chapter is single-player. It requires the free Witcher 3 Remastered upgrade dated 29 September 2026. Supported platforms are PC on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net, plus PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is not coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or the original Switch. Letten is Dandelion’s homeland in northern and northeastern Redania, near Kovir and Poviss, on a scale comparable to Blood and Wine. The land looks idyllic on purpose. Polish rural holidays and English countryside sit under a dark family secret.

Getting started before 2027

The Getting Started guide is the practical checklist. It explains why Remastered is mandatory, why several storefronts now sell The Witcher 3 only as a Complete Edition SKU, and why a save after Blood and Wine is the cleanest way to enter Letten. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine became free for existing owners; Songs of the Past will be sold separately. Price is unannounced. Blood and Wine launched at $19.99, which is a scale reference only, not a listed cost for this chapter. Steam files the DLC as app 5006530 against base game 292030.

How Geralt fights in Letten

Combat is still steel, silver, Signs, bombs, and alchemy. Remastered changes the camera so dodges keep the target framed, and it lets you retarget during a swing. The new silver chain wraps Geralt’s arm and occupies a quick-use slot like a Sign, bomb, or crossbow. It crowd-controls groups, pulls ranged threats, and breaks armored guards, including the Slumbering Knight. The How to Play Guide is the long read on that kit. Official remap tables for the expansion have not been published yet.

The chain is not a random gadget. It is the same tool from the first Witcher intro and from the striga imagery in The Last Wish. New threats that justify the extra slot are collected on the new monsters page: Swarmions that travel in groups, Thorn Flowers as an underground archespore variant, and the rooted Slumbering Knight. Walk Letten before a public map exists

The Letten Map Guide stays spoiler-light. It places the region on the Continent, describes settlements and harvest festivals, and explains why the de Lettenhove estate and the Garden of Thorns matter as geography, not as puzzle solutions. Designers compared the valley to childhood countryside: orchards, river bends, Belleteyn fires, and denser NPC days than Velen. Toussaint was wine and chivalry. Letten is folklore and family land that never felt the Nilfgaardian war the same way Novigrad did.

Use that map article beside Dandelion and Lilla. The bard is why Geralt is summoned. The cousin is the optional romance and a companion through early investigation. The players hub is the character index if you want the family before the plot beats.

Story without wrecking the mystery

The Story Overview marks mild preview spoilers in their own section. After Blood and Wine, Geralt is in Toussaint. Dandelion calls him north. The opening quest, A Bed of Thorns, starts with a hangover after Belleteyn, a missing friend, and a unique lute. If you want that quest as a job list rather than a primer, use the Bed of Thorns walkthrough. You meet a stern grandmother, cousin Lilla, and serious brother Gustav. Ancestor Count Humbert de Lettenhove and a family curse sit under the harvests. The plot is original, written years ago inside CD Projekt Red and later revived with Fool’s Theory. It is not a scene-by-scene Andrzej Sapkowski adaptation.

Remastered, footage, and tools

Songs of the Past inherits every Remastered combat, camera, and presentation change. Read the Remastered notes before you respec a character or throw out an old save. When you are ready to buy, return to this guides hub and the tools hub so storefront, hardware, and save hygiene stay aligned with a 2027 launch instead of a rumor calendar.

Do not wait for a leaked walkthrough. The useful work in 2026 is installing Remastered, keeping a Toussaint-ready save, and learning the chain’s slot rules so the first night in Letten is investigation rather than menu panic.
