Songs of the Past exists because Dandelion asked. That is the cleanest way to read the upcoming 2027 paid expansion. CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory are not sending Geralt to another warfront. They are sending him to Letten, the bard’s homeland in northern Redania, near Kovir and Poviss, after Blood and Wine. The Continent’s loudest poet is also a viscount. His real name is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, and the gamescom showcase used that fact as a door into a house most players have only heard about in tavern talk.

Letten is not Novigrad. It is rural, prosperous, and largely shielded from the Nilfgaardian wars that chewed through Redania’s south. Fool’s Theory’s world director placed it on the northern map with river directions that put the valley close to the Gulf of Praxeda and the Nimnar — which is why this wiki treats Letten as a neighbor of the Witcher 4 region rather than a Toussaint clone dropped in a random sea. The Letten map is the place for roads and landmarks. This page is the place for the man who grew up there and then spent a lifetime running from it.

The family still occupies the estate. Previews introduce a grandmother who holds the household, a brother named Gustav who plays the serious counterweight to Julian’s theatre, and cousin Lilla, who rides with Geralt into the Garden of Thorns. Ancestor Count Humbert sits over all of them as a legend: a noble whose doomed love for a witch ended in a massacre, a well, and a garden that still thirsts for Lettenhove blood. Dandelion has spent decades turning other people’s tragedies into songs. Songs of the Past is the chapter where his own house becomes the ballad.

A Bed of Thorns, the early main quest shown at gamescom 2026, does not open on a heroic reunion. It opens on Belleteyn. Geralt wakes hungover. Dandelion is missing. The bard’s distinctive lute is found in someone else’s hands, which is enough for Geralt to start cracking heads at a dock and then walk the instrument home. The estate dinner that follows is where the family learns the lute was abandoned, not lent. That is the moment the missing-person story becomes a curse story. Until Songs of the Past launches in 2027, treat every family dinner from the demo as a preview, not a finished ending.
